World Refugee Day: Nothing about Us Without Us – Amplifying Refugee Voices

Kampala Uganda June 20th 2023 – Today, on World Refugee Day, we join the global community in honoring and celebrating the strength and resilience of refugees worldwide. This year, the theme for World Refugee Day is “Nothing about Us Without Us,” emphasizing the importance of including refugee voices and experiences in decision-making processes that directly impact their lives.

As we stand in solidarity with displaced communities, it is crucial to recognize that refugees themselves are experts in their own lives and have valuable insights and perspectives to contribute. Their voices should be at the forefront of discussions surrounding their rights, protection, and solutions.

Throughout history, refugees have faced immense challenges, but they have also shown remarkable resilience and determination. They have rebuilt their lives, contributed to their host communities, and made significant contributions to various fields, including education, arts, sciences, and entrepreneurship.

On this World Refugee Day, we pledge to amplify refugee voices and ensure their meaningful participation in shaping policies and programs that affect them. We will work together to create inclusive spaces where refugees can express their needs, aspirations, and ideas.
